Star Trail Photography: Attempt Number One

As you can see, Polaris is the dot located on the lower left side of the photo.

Two hours of shooting, an hour of staring at the Star Walk app on an iPad, a bunch of airplanes, one annoying tree, and one semi-cloudy sky.

“The Royal Treatment”

That was the theme of the Magnum Launch Event last March 14, 2012 at White Space Makati.

I was lucky enough to be one of the red carpet photographers, thanks to Canon Philippines. It was my first time to actually shoot a red carpet event. There was an abundance of local A-Listers at the event, to my surprise, since it was just a launch for an ice cream bar which they recently introduced in the Philippines. Since I don’t really know much of the local celebrities here, what I did was just take photos of everyone who arrived at the red carpet. Hahaha! It also helped to just adapt to the environment and just shoot away whenever the paparazzi’s were going crazy trying to get photos of the people who were arriving. I have to say, it’s really difficult to be a paparazzi. Photographers kept on shoving, bumping, and pushing me so that they could get a clear shot of the celebrity. My goodness, it was like I was in a war and our SLRs were our snipers, rifles, or whatever! On the plus side, there was a lot of free Magnum ice cream all over the place. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Maybe next time, I’ll have the opportunity to cover a hollywood red carpet event.. A girl can dream. :))

“Let me light up the sky, light it up for you.”

All of the firework photos below were taken during the 3rd Pyromusical Competition at the SM Mall of Asia last Feb. 18, 2012. The photos were some parts of the fireworks display from the United Kingdom’s show. The UK won the competition last year, and I think they did an absolutely amazing job again this year!

The sky was so colorful, the music was rather good. It was easier to shoot the UK’s display because they had longer intervals before another set of fireworks shot across the sky again, unlike Spain’s. Spain’s was actually more fun to watch than photograph, the music and fireworks were in sync and their song selections were superb! It was however, difficult to photograph because at that time, the wind was going wild, plus they keep firing the fireworks like crazy! It was a little difficult to keep changing the camera’s settings, so I missed quite a few moments. I’ll post some photos from Spain’s show in the next few days.

I loved both of the countries’ shows, both were wonderful in their own unique way. I might just go to another show in March. I just hope I have some free time then. Anyway, hope you enjoy the pictures! I’m really happy with them, I expected less from myself since it would be my first time to really photograph fireworks.

Keep’ on Shining,
